No Account Required
Chitin does not require you to create an account. When you first open the app, a random anonymous device identifier (UUID) is generated and used solely to manage your session with our relay service. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information.
Conversation Processing
When using Chitin's cloud mode, your conversations are transmitted to our relay server for AI response generation. Conversations are processed in real time and are not stored beyond the duration of your active session. Your conversation data is never used for AI model training.
Data We Collect
We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the service:
- Anonymous device identifier (UUID)
- Daily usage counts (number of messages, for rate limiting on the free tier)
- Subscription status (to determine service tier)
OpenClaw Mode
When you connect Chitin to your own OpenClaw server, all conversations remain entirely on your local network. No conversation data passes through our servers. The app communicates directly with your OpenClaw instance over your local connection.
Third-Party Services
Chitin uses the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini — Provides LLM processing for the free tier. Conversations are sent to Google's API for response generation, subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Kokoro TTS — Our text-to-speech engine is self-hosted. No conversation or voice data is shared with third parties through this service.
- Apple StoreKit — Manages in-app subscriptions. Subscription transactions are handled by Apple, subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Data Retention
Anonymous device registration data is retained while your device remains active with our service. Conversations are not retained after your session ends. If you uninstall the app, your anonymous device record becomes orphaned and is periodically cleaned up.
Children's Privacy
Chitin is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has used our service, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
